Wireless radio is a communications technology designed to complement
wireline connectivity. Unlike cellular (mobile) communications,
wireless is not a separate telecommunications market segment. It
is a medium, like fiber or copper, deployed in cases where wireline
infrastructure is not feasible or too expensive to run, and when
rapid service rollout of data links or broadband access is required.
Naturally, wireless radio manufacturers train their engineering
efforts on perfecting the wireless interface in their products.
Typically, they do not invest resources in developing multiple user
interfaces. For this reason, many wireless products are equipped
with only a single user interface. This may be TDM for point-to-point
applications; or it may be Ethernet for point-to-multipoint applications,
such as Wireless Local Loop (WLL) or Local Multipoint Distribution
System (LMDS).
Carriers, service providers or enterprise users requiring support
of multiple protocols, service interworking and traffic grooming
or concentration will need to install additional access devices
with the appropriate user interfaces.
RAD Data Communications offers a wide range of product solutions
designed to expand the service offerings and access technologies
available over existing wireless networks. This equipment is engineered
to work with microwave, WLL, LMDS, satellite and infra-red wireless
radios, in point-to-point and point-to-multipoint topologies. These
devices are appropriate for Last Mile access, service backhaul,
and long-distance transport.
The diversity and flexibility of RAD's access solutions enable
wireless service providers or system integrators to rapidly deploy
narrowband and broadband voice and data services regardless of the
user interface on the radio equipment. This means providing TDM,
ATM, or Ethernet/IP interfaces, which complement the radio vendors'
own access ports. They support popular applications such as multi-protocol
access concentration and grooming, as well as service fan-out and
interworking.
Deploying RAD's access devices guarantees quick payback of wireless
investments for both carriers and private network users. Partnering
with RAD allows wireless radio vendors to expand the utility of
their equipment and embrace a larger customer base.
