Wireless radio is a communications technology designed to complement wireline connectivity. Unlike cellular (mobile) communications, wireless is not a separate telecommunications market segment. This may be TDM for point-to-point applications; or it may be Ethernet for point-to-multipoint applications, such as Wireless Local Loop (WLL) or Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS).

Carriers, service providers or enterprise users requiring support of multiple protocols, service interworking and traffic grooming or concentration will need to install additional access devices with the appropriate user interfaces.
