Xenon Saves Bandwidth on Voice Services with RAD ’s CVS

Xenon Communications – a new provider of international telecommunications services to long distance carriers – needed a voice compression solution to maximize the bandwidth of its satellite and wireline links. Xenon sought a provider that could offer top-notch guidance as well as quality products, service and support.

RAD enabled Xenon to provide a transport service connecting PBX systems in India, Pakistan and Nepal – which currently have only analog dial-tone type PSTNs – with a co-located full digital switching gateway in New York City. Xenon implemented RADs Megaplex-2100™ and Kilomux-2100™ solutions to create an access hub for connectivity. The Megaplex-2100 units connect to an E1 interface in the U.S. and Kilomux-2100 units connect to a T1 interface on the subcontinent.

Superior Voice Quality

The installation of RAD equipment provided cost savings for Xenon and its customers. “RAD’s scalable, modular equipment delivered more value than their competitors’ would have,” says Muhammad Hafeez, Vice President and co-founder of Xenon, “and is far more suitable than anyone else’s for the kinds of countries to which we connect, thanks to RAD’s wide array of interfaces. Another benefit is high overflow capacity, which allows RAD equipment to absorb overflow traffic from major carriers while providing superior sound quality. RAD can provide more bandwidth for the money than its competition because RAD’s voice compression goes all the way down to 4.8 kbps.”

Hafeez also noted that Xenon can continue to use RAD’s Megaplex and Kilomux equipment when digital technology does penetrate the Indian subcontinent, with only a simple module change, protecting Xenon’s investment.

Still another benefit is the sturdiness of RAD’s products. “We had a power outage for several hours and it was over 100 degrees in the room that housed the equipment, yet it functioned flawlessly,” states Hafeez. “Incredibly, the high heat did not degrade the system. We believe this is an unprecedented achievement.”

RAD’s service and support far exceeded Xenon’s expectations. “The people at RAD go out of their way to make sure things are running smoothly for us,” he affirms. “RAD worked with us on our application integration and broke down the price distribution in a way that suited our needs.”

Continuing Commitment

“If all goes as we anticipate, we will have other countries in Europe and Asia supporting this equipment,” Hafeez predicts. “That’s how much we believe in RAD. Without RAD, our solution would not have been possible.”
